SS Fernebo
Last weeks very low tides exposed the remains of a world war 1 shipwreck the SS Fernebo a Swedish vessel that was broken in two either by a mine or an explosion on board. It can be seen on a very low tide between Cromer and Overstrand, so it’s quite a rare sight.
The steamer ran into trouble during rough seas just off Cromer on the 9th January 1917. One half of the boat with some of the crew drifted towards the shore where a crowd of people helped with their rescue, the remainder of the crew were rescued by Henry Blogg and his crew in their rowing boat, the Louisa Heartwell. In all seventeen were saved in a very heroic rescue.
